Timmy Quigley has already touched so many lives. We are so proud to be able to carry on his name and touch the lives of so many more. Please scroll down to read his story...
In May of 2004, Timmy was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, which is a very aggressive, malignant childhood brain tumor. After a very quick diagnosis and surgery, the tumor was successfully and completely removed, and his treatments began in June.
Timmy underwent 4 rounds of intense chemotherapy. During his treatments, we spent most of the time in the hospital. Because of his age, and the high doses of Chemo that were necessary to attempt to treat his disease, the treatments were very hard on him.
After successfully completing his chemotherapy, prior to starting radiation therapy, one of his tests came back positive for cancer cells that were found in his spinal fluid. This was the worst news that we could have received and we all knew what it meant. Radiation to his brain and spinal cord (which would have cured the cancer) would have caused massive amounts of brain damage and multiple physical and developmental problems. Because of his age, there were no realistic medical options left.
Medulla Blastoma is one of the most aggressive types of childhood cancer. They discovered the cancer had come back in the form of nothing more than 'cells' in October, and Timmy died shortly after that in December of 2004.
The financial support we received throughout the year allowed us to spend every moment together as a family. The emails, gifts, and prayers that we received during that year were overwhelming. They lifted us up, and gave us such 'Peace'... Peace in just knowing that God was in total control of our lives and had His hand on Timmy's life. If there is one thing that we would pray that people would receive from any of this is what came so clear to us, "...For all things work together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28).
Any child dying is beyond understanding. It is frustrating to try to make sense that 'this' could somehow be in God's plan. The outpouring love and support we received from people all over the country finally made this simple verse mean so much. From something so horrible, came so much good, from so many people. To see so many good deeds from so many different people was truly a life changing experience.
Like we keep saying, imagine the lives that we will all change for the good. Imagine how much 'good' can come out of one of the most horrible things that can happen to a family.
For those of us who were blessed enough to have known Timmy, we will never forget him. He was such a joy. He had the cutest personality... always smiling, always playing and laughing (even through the roughest times in the hospital). He brought the BEST out in hundreds of people that never even met him. And now, with the help of all of you, he will bring out the best in 'thousands' more, and help change the lives of even more.
This is our opportunity to give hope where there is 'no hope', to pass on the 'peace' that our family experienced in a time of desperation. Timmy's life and Timmy's Fund will not only help families that are struggling with the financial stress of childhood cancer, but will give these families the hope and peace, and help them to see that there is so much 'good' in the world, even through the worst of times.
Above and beyond anything else, it was simply the financial support that we received from everyone that allowed us to stay together throughout this time... and above and beyond anything else, this is our goal... to provide families the financial support to get through their time, as we did... together as a family.
This is all of our opportunity. It is our prayer that you will join us. Together we will do so much good. Please take part in our fundraising events and contribute to our cause.
